Scarlet Party |
Scarlet Party 1981 - 1984 Over the past few articles we have written about bands that can loosely be regarded as having come from the C86/indiepop era of music however this time we have made an exception. The band Scarlet Party began life in 1981 and were formed by brothers Graham and Steven Dye along with Mark Gilmour (younger brother of David Gilmour from Pink Floyd) and Sean Heaphy. Although the band toured supporting Huey Lewis, Steve Hackett and Sad Café their music was somewhat different to those |
headlining acts. Scarlet Party's first single "101 Dam Nations" received a lot of
press attention at the time of it's release being as it was one of the first
releases on the re-activated Parlophone record label. It's sound not too dissimilar
to some of the early Beatles releases "101 Dam Nations" was released to time
in with the 20th anniversary of the Beatles 1st single, "Love Me Do" which had
also been released on the Parlophone label. Surprisingly the single sold very
few copies and in and it did not penetrate the top 40 however in the years since
it's release it has become quite collectable. The follow up "Eyes Of Ice" was
released in 1983 on clear vinyl and this again failed to chart and whilst the
band played live at Abbey Road's Recording Studio's 50th birthday party the band
called it a day in 1984. |
