The Enormous Room 1986. This is a con...a whole foxdude article (and not even a long one at that!) about a band that released just 6 songs, well read on to find out why! |

In their short life the band consisted of Jay Derbyshire (Bass), Robbie McCarthy
(Drums), Duncan Paterson (guitars) and Christopher Darke (voice & rhythm guitar).
The main reason for selecting the Enormous Room for an article is because
we firmly believe their sound was the essence of the best bits of the C86
jangle indie pop. Imagine a songs like a cross between the Bodines and the
Railway Children and you are not far from the Enormous Room. Bearing this in mind, we at foxdude towers still find it unbelievable that throughout the years of record trading so few people seem to be looking for items by this band. The Enormous Room feature on very few of the numerous "wants lists" we recieve. Bearing this in mind, this heavy plug is not because we have a secret stash of Enormous Room records stored away it is because we really like their music. |

Musically, the problem is not that the band only released 6 songs because it is
the quality that counts and having purchased a lot of music in various guises for
most of our lives we would quite happily accept buying less quantity and more
quality. Clearlly the problem is that the band split up too soon... I would have
added without forfilling their potential but having played the music of this
band for 15 years I we firmly believe that 6 songs, if good enough, can stretch
a very long way indeed. Enough said….if you like the jangly side of C86 indie pop then the Enormous Room are certainly for you. |
