Corn Dollies 1986-1991.

The year is 1987, the month is August and the turntable spins to the amazing twanging acoustic sounds of "Forever Steven."
No, not a jibe at sir Morrissey but an amazing single by a brand new band. Produced by Robert Forster of the Go-Betweens the song saws right into the hearts of all the reputable music critics of the time and soon Andy Wood, owner of Medium Cool records signs the band to his label. October 87 sees the release of the 2nd single, "Be Small Again" another classic slice of indie acoustic country strumming. Interesting for collectors the b-sides of both 7 and 12 inch formats contain different tracks thus forcing people to purchase copies of both to obtain all 4 EP songs. In February 1988 the band release a re-issue of "Forever Steven" but only in the 12 inch format, it features a further 2 new songs both of which are again produced by Robert Forster. Summer 1988 sees the single "Shake" and, being keen football fans the band donate a track to the various artist compilation "Bananas." The album is issued to help the Football Supporters Association campaign against the ID card scheme that was being mooted by the UK Government at the time. In autumn 1988 the band release "Map Of The World" as a single and the track also appears on a flexi given away free with issue 9 the magazine Zine. In April 1989 with the band touring and creating great interest on mainland Europe, Spain especially they release the single "Nothing Of You." A superb piece of indie guitar work not far removed from the heights of Johnny Marr on the Smiths "How Soon Is Now." Sadly the single again flops in the UK and even worse was to follow as the Medium Cool label folds leaving "Nothing Of You" as it’s final release. A belated 7 inch version eventually appears on a totally different label, Midnight Music six or so months later. Undeterred the band set on an extensive UK tour to promote the "Wrecked" LP which was released early in 1990. Acting as support to Ian McCulloch the band were exposed to a greater UK audience however the LP flopped as did the last single "Joyrider" and the Corn Dollies sadly split up in early 1991.
